Inigo Pipkin - Series 1
1.Mr Pipkin’s Workshop 1st January 1973 This is Mr Pipkins Workshop. Come on in and look around. See all those puppets? Well, Mr Pipkin made them and they are rather special, for they can dance and sing just like humans.
Oh yes, the chap with the saw is Johnny, Mr Pipkin’s assistant, who has just completed his first animal, an impressive dragon.
As you look around the workshop, you’ll notice many fascinating things which fit into the stories you can see during the coming weeks.
The dragon, for example. Will Mr Pipkin like it? And what will Hartley Hare and Tortoise think? Why not take a seat and find out...
2.Topov the Monkey 2nd January 1973
Mr Pipkin and Johnny have finished making a monkey puppet, but as Hartley Hare points out, it doesn’t move……
3.A Name for the Monkey 3rd January 1973
Now that the monkey can move, Mr Pipkin and Johnny think very hard for a name, they even ask Tortoise for help. What can they call the newcomer?.....
4.Mr Pipkin’s Nephew 4th January 1973
Mr Pipkin’s nephew, Fred, visits the workshop and tells his uncle that he is entering a bicycle race but funny things seem to happen to Fred……
5.Hartley’s Glasses 5th January 1973
Hartley cannot find his glasses. Are they lost, or has someone hidden them? Poor Hartley is in for a worrying time…..
6.Octavia 8th January 1973
Mr Pipkin is making an Ostrich. But Hartley doesn’t like other puppets and interferes by showing pictures of his uncle…..
7.Octavia’s feathers 9th January 1973
The Ostrich puppet is nearly finished. All she needs now are feathers for her tail. But where is Mr Pipkin going to find them?
8.Tortoise tries to help 10th January 1973
Mr Pipkin has no one to help him in the workshop because Johnny is late. Tortoise wakes up for a while and tries to be helpful, but in the end, everyone becomes very cross..
9.Octavia is finished 11th January 1973
Octavia the Ostrich is finished and everyone is excited as they wait to see what she can do……
10. Tortoise’s Cousin 12th January 1973
Tortoise is visited by his cousin, Turtle and finds out what he thinks of the workshop, and of leaving the sea….
11. Hartley’s letter 15th January 1973
Mr Pipkin receives a letter from Fred but Hartley is disappointed because no one ever sends him a letter. Topov and Johnny think it’s time to put this right….
12. Fred the sailor 16th January 1973
Fred announces that he wants to become a sailor because he wants to wear a cap and a coat with brass buttons, but does he know what it’s like on a boat when the wind blows and the sea gets rough?
13. The leaking roof 17th January 1973
It’s raining outside and the roof leaks, but nobody minds because there are plenty of things one can do with water. Octavia even gets a chance to wear her new hat.
14. The Play 18th January 1973
Hartley, Topov and Tortoise rehearse while Mr Pipkin and Johnny get the theatre ready for a play which they are to perform for a group of children.
15. Bertha 19th January 1973
Johnny’s sister Bertha comes to the workshop to tidy up but Johnny doesn’t like her because she will talk about him when he was a little boy. Then another visitor arrives….
16. Doctor Stethoscope 22nd January 1973
Hartley thinks that Tortoise may be ill when he won’t come out of his shell, so he sends for Dr Stethoscope.
17. The Birthday Cake 23rd January 1973
Tomorrow is Mr Pipkin’s birthday and as he’s gone fishing, Fred sneaks into the workshop to make a birthday cake as a surprise. But nobody’s more surprised than Fred when the cake comes out of the oven…
18. Mr Pipkin’s Birthday 24th January 1973
Today is Mr Pipkin’s Birthday and his birthday tea is being kept a secret. One thing Hartley finds out, however, is that you shouldn’t eat too much jelly.
19. Too messy for Octavia 25th January 1973
Hartley tells Mr Pipkin that the workshop is too messy for Octavia to live in. Mr Pipkin promises to tidy up, but soon forgets his task…
20. Topov the naughty monkey 26th January 1973
Hartley is excited because the postman’s brought him a parcel from his uncle. Topov, on the other hand is sad because he’s being punished for being a naughty monkey. To cap it all, the roof is leaking again.
21. Octavia loses her voice 29th January 1973
Octavia the Ostrich moves her beak, but there is no sound. Mr Pipkin is so worried that he gets Johnny to call the doctor. But the clever Dr Stethoscope knows what the trouble is- Octavia has lost her voice.
22. Fred hasn’t gone to sea after all 30th January 1973
Fred hasn’t gone to sea after all, he’s come to the workshop….
23. The Plant 31st January 1973
Bertha brings Mr Pipkin and Johnny a present-a big plant that will look very nice in the window. But Mr Pipkin and Johnny are so busy that they forget to care for the plant, and very soon it doesn’t look very nice anymore…
24. Going to the Seaside 2nd February 1973
Mr Pipkin, Johnny, Hartley Tortoise and even naughty Topov are all going away to the seaside for a holiday. Dr Stethoscope is going with them to make sure that no one, especially Hartley, gets a cold.

25. The Telephone 2nd July 1973
Inigo Pipkin has problems. When he had a telephone put into the workshop, he didn’t realize the trouble it would cause….
26. Topov’s beard 3rd July 1973
Topov keeps getting his beard in the cornflakes…..
27. Hartley and Bertha clean up 4th July 1973
Bertha sets out for the workshop to see Johnny but when she arrives Mr Pipkin and Johnny are out. Although she’s a bit cross, she decides to clean up while they are out. Hartley helps out, but finds the vacuum cleaner too loud for his big ears!
28. The New Puppet 5th July 1973
A new puppet has been made, and it’s nearly ready to be shown. But Hartley can’t wait. He wants to see it now. And it’s through trying to take peep at it that he has an accident.
29. Pig 6th July 1973
The new puppet makes snorting noises. He also eats all the time, often rather strange things. Hartley puts up with this for a while, until he finds drawings of food among his own pictures…..

31. The Dustman 10th July 1973
A Dustman calls to take away the old junk, but Mr Pipkin wants to keep it. He can make animals out of things that people throw away. Th dustman is so excited by what he sees in the workshop that he gets left behind by the dust cart.

Hartley says it's ridiculous to have a rabbit and a hare under the same roof.
33. Johnny in charge 12th July 1973
Mr Pipkin is out so Johnny is in charge. Bertha comes round to help out but Johnny says he can manage by himself. He doesn't always want his sister around when he's at work.....

Why is tortoise so slow? This is a question that worries both Topov and Hartley and they plan to do something about it....

Hartley Hare is going to put on a play. Written by Hartley Hare....

Octavia and Pig go for a walk in the wood.
39. Gone missing 20th July 1973
Hartley Pig and Topov, joined later by Tortoise, go off on an adventure by themselves. But they don't tell anyone where they are going. Johnny and Octavia get very worried inn case something has happened to them.
39. Things that go bump in the night 23rd July 1973
Work has finished for the day. Hartley and Pig are tucked up in bed. But Hartley can't sleep. He hears strange noises coming from downstairs. What is going on in the workshop?
40. Charlie in charge 24th July 1973
Mr Pipkin and Johnny have to go out, so they leave Charlie the dustman in charge, but he isn't very good at keeping everyone in order. It's not easy with a pig a hare and a monkey all being naughty!
41. Boxing clever 25th July 1973
Pig is teaching Hartley how to box with a punchball. Hartley is not finding it easy because you need to see what you hitting when you are boxing. Pig laughs so much that something unexpected happens....
42. Johnny and the football 26th July 1973
Johnny is out, playing with his football in the yard. He kicks it too hard and the man who lives next door isn't very pleased. But when he comes round to the workshop to complain, Johnny cannot be found....
43. Helping hands 27th July 1973
Johnny has to paint a new scene for the puppet theatre. To this, he needs some paint, some brushes and the puppets as far away as possible! Unfortunately, they want to help, and so does Charlie.

Hartley decides to visit his uncle in the country-but on the same day, his uncle decides to go and visit Hartley! Hartley meets lots of interesting animals in the country, but will he meet his uncle?

49. Johnny’s Flat, Hartley’s Office 5th August 1974
Johnny is now in charge, but without Mr Pipkin to teach him to make puppets, how will he earn money to buy food? Johnny has an idea….
50. Their first Job 6th August 1974
Johnny, Hartley, Tortoise, Topov and co start up in business as “Pipkins”, the help people. Hartley answers the phone in the office, while Pig and Topov go ouut in the van to help people….
51. New Housekeeper 7th August 1974
With everyone working, who is going to do the housework? The only one who could do it is Octavia, but she breaks everything with her feet. So they advertise for a housekeeper….
52. Mrs P’s Suite 8TH August 1974
Mrs P, the new Penguin housekeeper feels she should not be asked to sleep in the kitchen sink. So Johnny gets a new kitchen sink unit and puts it out in the yard.
53. Building the bank 9th August 1974
Tortoise can’t go on keeping money under the settee, he needs somewhere special to put it. Charlie the dustman comes to the rescue with an idea.
54. Bertha’s Spuds 12th August 1974
Bertha tries to help run the office,but she upset’s Hartley’s way of doing thingHowever she does find a quick way of planting potatoes…..
55. Uncle goes a wooing 13th August 1974
Uncle Hare takes Mrs P into town and finds he likes his own hollow much better. But Mrs P likes one place they visit….where they keep fish on ice!
56. Charlie the nurse 14th August 1974
Hartley feels poorly, but he’s in good hands as Charlie is looking after him. However as Hartley recovers, strange things start to happen to Charlie…
57. The Money Programme 15th August 1974
Pig, Topov and Hartley all have very different ideas on how to spend the money they have saved from their work.
58. Stripe 16th August 1974
Hartley is fed up with being left in the office while the others are out enjoying themselves. So Johnny gives him his big chance, but it doesn’t quite work out as Hartley had hoped….
59. Play 19th August 1974
Pipkins are asked to put on a play. This they all want to do, trouble is that they all want to be the star! Hartley however, knows who is going to write it…. He is!
60. Charlie and the Duck 20th August 1974
Have you ever been followed by a duck? Charlie has. One day he found that wherever he went, the duck went too….

Hartley is worried. He’s not as tall as Octavia. He decides it’s just a question of growing. So he tries all kinds of ways to make himself taller.
62. Birds of a feather 22nd August 1974
Mrs P and Octavia are both birds. Each accuses the other of not being able to fly, and the are both right of course. But when they begin to squabble, Topov cleverly finds a way to bring them together again.
63. Johnny’s Breakdown 23rd August 1974
The Pipkin’s van breaks down, stranding Johnny miles from anywhere. Bertha is worried in case he has had an accident and Mrs P tries to comfort her-with stories of all the terrible things that have happened to some of her family….
64. Topov and the bells 26th August 1974
Topov has hurt his hand, but he gets bored when Johnny won’t take him anywhere in the van. At first, he can’t think of anything to do. Then he gets up to something which frightens all the others..

It is the Pipkins day off. They decide to have a picnic and get everything ready, but just as they are about to go, the van won't start. They all decide to go to the picnic in different ways……………

Charlie plans to help an old lady he knows... he's going to make her a nice hot meal.All goes well until Bertha arrives and takes over in the kitchen. Charlie get's carried away in the supermarket.

A farmer friend of Uncle Hare has a problem... the birds are eating all his seeds. Pipkins come to the rescue with a home made scarecrow
72. Planning a holiday 5th September 1974
Pipkins have saved enough money for a holiday treat....
73. Camping 6th September 1974
It's holiday time for Pipkins, and they are camping in the woods. Everyone has a job to do, and they are all happy. At least, almost everyone....Octavia can’t stand the mud!

Octavia, who usually takes the letters to the post box has gone to her singing lesson, so Hartley must do it. But this is not as easy as he thinks.

Bertha is knitting Johnny a scarf, and Hartley, although he doesn't need knitted things because he has his own fur gets cross because she won't knit anything for him. Then Bertha gets cross because Johnny has made a "Mr Woolhead" out of the scarf. Guess what that is?

Johnny and Hartley are going to make a garden swing for a child they know. They’re not too keen on Pig helping them, but yet when it comes to solving their biggest problem, Pig proves to be surprisingly helpful.

Bertha brings a present for Johnny, but before Johnny gets back from work, the present has disappeared. Where did it go? And could Hartley have had anything to do with it?
89. The Broken Bicycle 24th February 1975
Johnny finds out the hard way that there are some things you just can’t mend yourself. You need a special machine to do it or send it back to the factory where it was made…
90. The Adventure Playground 25th February 1975
Why do children keep throwing paper into the Pipkins yard? Perhaps it’s because they are bored. Anyway, that’s what Charlie thinks, so he get’s Pipkins to help him build something very exciting for all the children…..
91. The Lollipop Man 26th February 1975
The lollipop man who takes the children across the road to school is taken ill. What’s going to happen? How can the children get to school without getting run over? Pipkins, of course, comes to the rescue with an idea.

Charlie’s Grandad is old and often forget’s things. For example, when he turns on the kitchen tap to wash up, he forget’s to turn it off again and get’s his feet wet. Can the help people help him?

Hartley is worried about Tortoise. He has always been slow,but seems to be getting even slower. So Hartley takes over counting the money from Tortoise….but finds that it isn’t as easy as it looks…..

Everybody is very excited because they are going on a picnic. But when they are all ready to leave, it starts to rain. Everyone is very sad, until Bertha arrives and thinks up something just as exciting for them to do indoors.

Sometimes one only hears the things one wants to hear. When Pig’s in bed in the mornings, he doesn’t hear it when he’s told it’s time to get up to go to work. But the others trick him with a sound that only means one thing to Pig-food!
100. The Painters 6th May 1975
Some painters paint walls, other painters paint pictures. Hartley knows exactly which painter he is, but it doesn’t help very much with the job that they have given him to do. Or does it?
101. Bertha and the machines 7th May 1975
Hartley and Bertha both feel that Mrs P needs some machines to help in the kitchen…
102. Back to the Earth 8th May 1975
Pipkins decide to grow their own food, like people do in the country. But Uncle Hare, who has come to help, knows that country ways don’t always work in the town….
103. Charlie the hero 9th May 1975
Johnny has a cold, so Charlie comes round and does a few little jobs to help out. Hartley makes Johnny feel worse by saying that Charlie is so much better than Johnny, and Topov makes a complete mess of things by trying to copy Charlie….

Hartley and Johnny are tired of being given fish for every meal, even if Mrs P does say that it is good for them. Bertha comes along and tries to help but all she manages to do is make Mrs P very angry…..

Inigo Pipkin - Series 1
1.Mr Pipkin’s Workshop 1st January 1973 This is Mr Pipkins Workshop. Come on in and look around. See all those puppets? Well, Mr Pipkin made them and they are rather special, for they can dance and sing just like humans.
Oh yes, the chap with the saw is Johnny, Mr Pipkin’s assistant, who has just completed his first animal, an impressive dragon.
As you look around the workshop, you’ll notice many fascinating things which fit into the stories you can see during the coming weeks.
The dragon, for example. Will Mr Pipkin like it? And what will Hartley Hare and Tortoise think? Why not take a seat and find out...
2.Topov the Monkey 2nd January 1973
Mr Pipkin and Johnny have finished making a monkey puppet, but as Hartley Hare points out, it doesn’t move……
3.A Name for the Monkey 3rd January 1973
Now that the monkey can move, Mr Pipkin and Johnny think very hard for a name, they even ask Tortoise for help. What can they call the newcomer?.....

Mr Pipkin has no one to help him in the workshop because Johnny is late. Tortoise wakes up for a while and tries to be helpful, but in the end, everyone becomes very cross..

Octavia the Ostrich is finished and everyone is excited as they wait to see what she can do……

Tortoise is visited by his cousin, Turtle and finds out what he thinks of the workshop, and of leaving the sea….

Mr Pipkin receives a letter from Fred but Hartley is disappointed because no one ever sends him a letter. Topov and Johnny think it’s time to put this right….
12. Fred the sailor 16th January 1973
Fred announces that he wants to become a sailor because he wants to wear a cap and a coat with brass buttons, but does he know what it’s like on a boat when the wind blows and the sea gets rough?
13. The leaking roof 17th January 1973
It’s raining outside and the roof leaks, but nobody minds because there are plenty of things one can do with water. Octavia even gets a chance to wear her new hat.
14. The Play 18th January 1973
Hartley, Topov and Tortoise rehearse while Mr Pipkin and Johnny get the theatre ready for a play which they are to perform for a group of children.
15. Bertha 19th January 1973
Johnny’s sister Bertha comes to the workshop to tidy up but Johnny doesn’t like her because she will talk about him when he was a little boy. Then another visitor arrives….

Hartley thinks that Tortoise may be ill when he won’t come out of his shell, so he sends for Dr Stethoscope.

Tomorrow is Mr Pipkin’s birthday and as he’s gone fishing, Fred sneaks into the workshop to make a birthday cake as a surprise. But nobody’s more surprised than Fred when the cake comes out of the oven…
18. Mr Pipkin’s Birthday 24th January 1973
Today is Mr Pipkin’s Birthday and his birthday tea is being kept a secret. One thing Hartley finds out, however, is that you shouldn’t eat too much jelly.
19. Too messy for Octavia 25th January 1973
Hartley tells Mr Pipkin that the workshop is too messy for Octavia to live in. Mr Pipkin promises to tidy up, but soon forgets his task…
20. Topov the naughty monkey 26th January 1973
Hartley is excited because the postman’s brought him a parcel from his uncle. Topov, on the other hand is sad because he’s being punished for being a naughty monkey. To cap it all, the roof is leaking again.
21. Octavia loses her voice 29th January 1973
Octavia the Ostrich moves her beak, but there is no sound. Mr Pipkin is so worried that he gets Johnny to call the doctor. But the clever Dr Stethoscope knows what the trouble is- Octavia has lost her voice.
22. Fred hasn’t gone to sea after all 30th January 1973
Fred hasn’t gone to sea after all, he’s come to the workshop….
23. The Plant 31st January 1973
Bertha brings Mr Pipkin and Johnny a present-a big plant that will look very nice in the window. But Mr Pipkin and Johnny are so busy that they forget to care for the plant, and very soon it doesn’t look very nice anymore…
24. Going to the Seaside 2nd February 1973
Mr Pipkin, Johnny, Hartley Tortoise and even naughty Topov are all going away to the seaside for a holiday. Dr Stethoscope is going with them to make sure that no one, especially Hartley, gets a cold.

25. The Telephone 2nd July 1973
Inigo Pipkin has problems. When he had a telephone put into the workshop, he didn’t realize the trouble it would cause….

Topov keeps getting his beard in the cornflakes…..
27. Hartley and Bertha clean up 4th July 1973
Bertha sets out for the workshop to see Johnny but when she arrives Mr Pipkin and Johnny are out. Although she’s a bit cross, she decides to clean up while they are out. Hartley helps out, but finds the vacuum cleaner too loud for his big ears!
28. The New Puppet 5th July 1973
A new puppet has been made, and it’s nearly ready to be shown. But Hartley can’t wait. He wants to see it now. And it’s through trying to take peep at it that he has an accident.
29. Pig 6th July 1973
The new puppet makes snorting noises. He also eats all the time, often rather strange things. Hartley puts up with this for a while, until he finds drawings of food among his own pictures…..

A Dustman calls to take away the old junk, but Mr Pipkin wants to keep it. He can make animals out of things that people throw away. Th dustman is so excited by what he sees in the workshop that he gets left behind by the dust cart.

Hartley says it's ridiculous to have a rabbit and a hare under the same roof.

Mr Pipkin is out so Johnny is in charge. Bertha comes round to help out but Johnny says he can manage by himself. He doesn't always want his sister around when he's at work.....

Work has finished for the day. Hartley and Pig are tucked up in bed. But Hartley can't sleep. He hears strange noises coming from downstairs. What is going on in the workshop?
40. Charlie in charge 24th July 1973
Mr Pipkin and Johnny have to go out, so they leave Charlie the dustman in charge, but he isn't very good at keeping everyone in order. It's not easy with a pig a hare and a monkey all being naughty!
41. Boxing clever 25th July 1973
Pig is teaching Hartley how to box with a punchball. Hartley is not finding it easy because you need to see what you hitting when you are boxing. Pig laughs so much that something unexpected happens....
42. Johnny and the football 26th July 1973
Johnny is out, playing with his football in the yard. He kicks it too hard and the man who lives next door isn't very pleased. But when he comes round to the workshop to complain, Johnny cannot be found....
43. Helping hands 27th July 1973
Johnny has to paint a new scene for the puppet theatre. To this, he needs some paint, some brushes and the puppets as far away as possible! Unfortunately, they want to help, and so does Charlie.

Johnny, Hartley, Tortoise, Topov and co start up in business as “Pipkins”, the help people. Hartley answers the phone in the office, while Pig and Topov go ouut in the van to help people….
51. New Housekeeper 7th August 1974
With everyone working, who is going to do the housework? The only one who could do it is Octavia, but she breaks everything with her feet. So they advertise for a housekeeper….
52. Mrs P’s Suite 8TH August 1974
Mrs P, the new Penguin housekeeper feels she should not be asked to sleep in the kitchen sink. So Johnny gets a new kitchen sink unit and puts it out in the yard.
53. Building the bank 9th August 1974
Tortoise can’t go on keeping money under the settee, he needs somewhere special to put it. Charlie the dustman comes to the rescue with an idea.
54. Bertha’s Spuds 12th August 1974
Bertha tries to help run the office,but she upset’s Hartley’s way of doing thingHowever she does find a quick way of planting potatoes…..
55. Uncle goes a wooing 13th August 1974
Uncle Hare takes Mrs P into town and finds he likes his own hollow much better. But Mrs P likes one place they visit….where they keep fish on ice!

Hartley feels poorly, but he’s in good hands as Charlie is looking after him. However as Hartley recovers, strange things start to happen to Charlie…

Pig, Topov and Hartley all have very different ideas on how to spend the money they have saved from their work.

Hartley is fed up with being left in the office while the others are out enjoying themselves. So Johnny gives him his big chance, but it doesn’t quite work out as Hartley had hoped….
